FAQ

Good to know

Can't find the answer here? Call or text us, or ask us in store.

What do I need to bring to collect my prescription?

Please bring valid ID, such as a driving licence, passport or national ID card. We need to confirm who you are before handing out prescription medicines.

Can I collect medicine for someone else?

Yes, in two ways. If the person has given you a power of attorney (fullmakt), you only need to show your own ID. With an e-ID, a power of attorney is easy to set up via Läkemedelskollen or pharmacy websites. Without a power of attorney, bring both your own ID and the other person's ID. This counts as a temporary power of attorney for that visit only. A power of attorney can be arranged through the Swedish eHealth Agency website or here at the pharmacy.

What if my medicine is out of stock?

We will get it in for you. It usually arrives the next working day, and we will let you know as soon as it is ready.

Can I book a pick-up in advance?

Yes, use the booking form on this page. We will prepare your items and contact you when they are ready for pick-up.

Why did I get a different medicine than the one on my prescription?

Swedish pharmacies are required by law to offer the cheapest equivalent medicine available, known as generic substitution. It contains the same active ingredient at the same strength. If you prefer the original brand, you can pay the difference. Just ask us if you are unsure.

How does the high-cost protection work?

The Swedish high-cost protection scheme (högkostnadsskydd) is applied automatically when you buy subsidised prescription medicines. You don't need to do anything. We can show you how much you have left to pay before reaching the next discount level.

Can I return old medicines?

Yes, you are welcome to hand in old and unused medicines here, free of charge. Please remove the outer packaging and put the medicines in a clear plastic bag. Syringes and needles should be returned in a special container, which you can get from us. Packaging, thermometers and solvents go to your local recycling centre. Never flush medicines or throw them in the bin, as it harms the environment.

Can I collect medicine for my children?

Yes. As a parent or legal guardian you do not need a power of attorney to collect medicine for your children under 18, but you need to show your ID.

How can I see which medicines I have been prescribed?

Ask us in the pharmacy and we will print a list of all your current prescriptions. Please bring ID.

Can I pay with Swish?

Yes, in store you can pay by card or Swish.

Do you have medicines for pets?

We have a small range of veterinary medicines and are happy to get in what you need.

Are you licensed by the Swedish Medical Products Agency?

Yes. Essingens Apotek is licensed by the Swedish Medical Products Agency (Läkemedelsverket), and we are members of SOAF, the Swedish association of independent pharmacies.

Do you give advice in other languages?

Yes, we give advice in Swedish and English. Feel free to ask if we have staff who speak your language.
